Week Four

I am so excited! Weigh in this week 171! I lost a pound! I'm even more excited because I don't feel I had to do anything too extreme to lose that pound. Smaller portion sizes, listening to my body and lots of water. I actually only worked out 2-6 days this week. I was sick for 3 and Thursday just ended up being a crazy day. This week I feel all better so I don't see why it won't be 6-6 workout days and can you imagine what I might lose weight wise if I work out more too. So fabulous! I did not have a drop of soda this week. Its getting easier and easier not to even think of it as an option. Also, remember how I said my work has free doughnuts on the weekends I did not have a single one. Thats huge for me. I love doughnuts. So glad I didn't it probably would have cost me my pound. But I'm ok I just looked at them and thought about their amazing sugary wonderfulness and salivated a little and then I was fine. Really it wasn't that bad though.
Also, there is a PT test on Wednesday. My squad leader wants me to take it so we know where I'm at. I know I can pass pushups and situps its just the run. In my mind I see me passing I just need to push hard and dig deep. My dad is also going to come pace me because he is awesome! I'm hoping that will help and I'm going to take some energy gels to give me a boost and where my nose strip. Make fun all you want of the nasal strip but I breathe so much better when I run with it. If everyone could cross your fingers, say a prayer, or send me your mad fast running skills that would be appreciated. Oh and its supposed to be 6 degrees ... 6 degrees and the test is at Liberty Park. I'm going to freeze my tush off.
Little fun fact about what a "real" pushup is...there is this thing called the "plank" which is where your elbows are basically you would draw a line from one elbow to the other. You don't go to the plank you go further down than the plank. Difficult? Yes. You can't go to your knees either or else its over.

Woohoo!

Ben and I are running the Utah Valley Marathon on June 11th. This will be the first marathon for both of us and it will be amazing! My friend Erin is going to run with us as well. Anyone else interested in running with us or wants a good training plan just let me know.

As of March 11th I will be Zumba Instructor certified! I am so excited! I cannot stop talking about it! Its a one day certification at a local gym. I cannot wait!!! I'm hoping to obviously teach somewhere which would be awesome.
And lastly, this is so crazy, Ben has an interview with jetBlue this week. Yes read that sentence again. If you all remember this
situation. Crazy and ironic. But we never got to take adavantage of the flight benefits I had while working there so we'll see what happens.

Tips from this week

I'm just loving this whole blogging about my unsuccessful so far but fun and educational weight loss experience so I decided to give a little mid week tips.
Tips from this week:
Get enough sleep. Usually 6-8 hour for adults. I've read a lot of places and especially for weight loss if your not sleeping its difficult to lose the weight. Also, if your sick the more sleep you can get the better so your body can recover and you can get better quick!
Get organized make a daily schedule to reduce stress. I set aside time each day to study and do homework that way I wasn't stressed about it the last day and eating crazy because I was stressed.
Cut down on fruit juices even orange juice even when sick. More calories than they are nutritional. Eat an orange and just drink tons of water.
Plan meals ahead of time. I need to be better at this one especially on Thursdays. We have class from 1045-1205 and then ROTC lab from 1235-320. I always think we'll just eat after when we get home at like 4 but that is skipping a meal and I'm hypoglycemic so that makes me super onry which is no bueno for Ben. I made a backpack that we keep in the car with fruit snacks and granola bars and then this week I made us turkey sandwiches to eat in between class and lab. Genius!
Listen to your body-If your full, your full. I did really well this week doing this. One night a few hours after dinner everyone was having ice cream and cookies I was still full and still sick so I just said no thanks and didn't have any. It wasn't that hard and I felt better instead of that gross eating too much feeling.
Green salads. Enough said. You should try and have one I would say 5 times a week. Packed with veggies and preferrably a vinaigratte or Lite dressing.
Cut things out that you don't love. I questioned and thought about this thought this week and one of the nights we were having hamburgers and a green salad. I had already had quite a bit of bread that day and I hate it when my bun gets soggy so I thought why not have it without the bun? I still had all the fixings just no bun and it was delicious and I cut down on calories.
I haven't always been a huge fan of the food pyramid but thanks to my nutrition class I was introduced to the new food pyramid and its not bad. Go http://www.mypyramid.gov/ and click on Mypyramid plan. Very interesting and helpful.

Week Three

Week three already...oh shiz.
I did really well this week. I worked out 4-6 days I was planning on. You may think how is that good well I was sick 2-6 days because I beat the crap out of my body the 4 days so it's awesome. Monday we didn't have PT since it was a holiday but I did a 2 mile run on my own and pushups and situps, Tuesday I did the same thing. Wednesday we had PT and it was a killer, naturally. I don't remember exactly what we did I just remember again thinking my body was going to give out and I was going to pass out or something crazy. It was fabulous. Thursday I woke up at 5am and did Zumba and my mother in law came with me too! It was fun and a great workout all in one. Then...oh yes workout time is not over for the day yet...I did a crazy 2 mile run on the treadmill. I ran a mile in 9:40...yes that would be passing if I could do 2 miles both at that pace and then 4 more laps, which equaled another mile with breaks in between but at the same pace. It was extremely difficult but I did it.
As far as eating this week I did really well I think. I tried to think of healthier options. I had one extra treat or whatever you want to call it this week. I had some fried pickles. I love them. Also I didn't have any soda pop this week except for 2 sips of Ben's Sprite on Saturday night. I drank a ton of water and thanks to my nutrition class have being trying to add more fruits and veggies into my diet as well. Its easy during the summertime but holy cow during the winter I rarely eat them.
Well, I've decided something else as well. I'm probably not going to take the PT test on the
31st. Its a week away. My last 2 mile run that I did this week came in at 21:55 and that was without doing pushups and situps before. Good news though the last PT test I took with pushups and situps before I came in at 23:45 for my 2 mile run. So I've almost taken 2 minutes off my time since then and that was on November 15th. I haven't been great about working out over Christmas break but still. I can take a PT test anytime I don't have to take it with the platoon so I'm going to keep kicking butt and then when I have passed it on my own ask to take a PT test.
My weigh in this week -172. Thats right I lost the 2 lbs that I gained last week so now I'm back to square one. But at least I lost lbs right? If I can just keep going on this streak that would be great and I plan on it.

Top Books

Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom
The best book ever. Everyone needs to read this once in their life. Don't just watch the movie read it.
I read it about 6-7 years ago and loved it and I've read it a few times since then especially when I'm having a rough time or just need a good pick me up book or just need a good book. Its amazing. Its also a true story which makes it even better.

If you remember from my last post I talked about doing burpees. Here is a video of how to do a burpee. Just a little side note my burpees did not look like this but I am getting there.
Enjoy!

Week Two

Let me start with the positive side of it all. I did some pretty good workouts and runs this week and I worked out 4-6 days I was planning on. The only reason I didn't work out 6-6 is because I could not move thanks to PT for the ROTC on Wednesday I could not move literally I was so sore. If you want to feel like I felt here's the work out we did:
Pushups 10 seconds on 10 seconds off for about 2 minutes until you feel like you are going to die, puke, or faint.
Then you get a 1 minute rest.
Flutter kicks (feet about 6 inches off the ground moving up and down opposite of each other staying as close to the ground as possible) same time frame and everything as pushups
1 minute rest
Squats as far down as you can go, same time frame
1 minute rest
Lunges (knees to the ground each time) same time frame
Then run outside do 15 burpees ( jump straight up in the air then down to pushup and come back up) run around the block or about 1/4 of a mile and do that 3 times.
Thought I was ok and then as the day went on I became extremely sore. I loved every second of that workout though it was awesome! As far as the rest of my workouts for the week Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday I went for a good run and Thursday I did my first class of Zumba. It was so much fun! My friends soon to be cousin in law teaches it in the morning for free. It was awesome and something I could really get into and just enjoy.
Then comes the whole soda/Dr. Pepper/ eating part of it all which I'm not going to talk about but I promise I will do amazing this week.
Also did not make it to Ohio thats the price you pay when flying standby. oh well we will make it out there one day soon.
Same with the whole facebook thing... I think I'm going to start out saying once a day 5 min max and we'll see how it goes.
My weight this week as of this morning is 174. Yup gained 2 lbs. Not sure if its because I didn't weigh my self after my work out or if its because its that lovely time of the month but moving on to a new week.
**I'm trying to lose the weight without going on some specific weight loss program like slimfast or weighwatchers just by trying to eat healthy and exercise but I may be doing one of those options if I don't start seeing results**

Week One

Week one of my new years resolutions went ok. I ran 3 days this week at the olympic oval. Three days out of the six I was planning on running. At least I ran though right? I have no idea how I'm doing on my 2 mile time because the oval is all screwy and no one even the people that work there can figure out how many times it is around for 2 miles. Its either just under 7 laps or just under 8 laps. Its a different size than a normal track. Anyways, either way I haven't even been at 19:30. I'm frusterated, of course, but one big thing is back around the first of December I did a 1.5 mile run for my cardio class and did it in about 14:30 which another half a mile and I would definetly pass my PT test. However, it was on the treadmill which is nice because I choose a pace and then the treadmill helps me maintain it obviously. I need to figure out how to pace myself.

As far as my losing weight goal...eh not so good. So Monday I weighed my self after my run at 172lbs. My goal weight is 140. To pass the weight part of my PT test I need to be down to at least 165. Today I weighed myself after my run and I was still at exactly 172lbs. Great. I did pretty good as far as eating. I do really well in the morning and eat pretty healthy and then as the day goes on I start to munch and snack more. On Thursday we had a work party thing at Toscanos downtown which is like a buffet and then they bring different kinds of meats around. I did pretty well I didn't eat too much I held back it could have been because my acid reflux is really hitting me really hard this week so needless to say almost every time I eat I get sick so eating somedays eating is not appealing even though I'm hungry...it's weird I don't like it I don't know whats going on. Also, Saturdays at my work they bring in Einstein bagels w/ cream cheese and doughnuts all you can eat. Difficult? Just a bit. Also there is all you can drink water :) which I have in my mug all day. There is also all you can drink juice and soda pop every dang day. For some reason when I'm having a bad day I think Dr. Pepper will make me feel better so on Friday and Saturday I had one glass of Dr. Pepper. Terrible. My goal this week is no more Dr. Pepper period! I don't have to say soda pop because nothing else tempts me. Dr. Pepper(any soda) is really bad because 1 it makes you or at least me gain weight and I can also tell a difference in my running when I don't drink it.I do drink a ton of water though which is great!

Week one went did not go as well as I had hoped but I'm not giving up. I'm sure week two will go even better even with the trip to Ohio and school starting...eye yi yi!We are leaving for Ohio to see Ava for her first b-day on Tuesday night and wont be home until Sunday night/ Monday morning. Jason (my bro) said he will work out with me while we are out there and I'm sure Ben will want to work out too. I also did my situps 3 days this week and pushups. I did 50 situps each day and 20 pushups with a mix of real pushups and girl pushups. The PT test I believe is not until January 31st so I should definetly be able to pass. Another goal I have is to do Yoga twice a week. I know some salutations from my Yoga class last semester and I also have the P90x yoga and another yoga video so plenty of resources. I love doing Yoga and apparently for my blood type its really good for me and it relieves stress. It is great to relieve stress just because and also when your stressed you risk being injured easily and it does not help you lose weight.

Little side note I've made a goal for this week no Facebook until Sunday I'm going to try to do that every week while school is going on. I get so caught up in looking at peoples status' and pictures the time flies and I could have gotten a ton done so we'll see how that goes .Anywhoo...thats all I have for this week. Wish me luck!

Funny for the day...Call centers gotta love 'em

As you know both of us work at a call center 1800contacts where people call in to order contacts... obviously. Well not so obvious because you would be surprised how many people call and say "can you give me the number to such and such place?" how do I answer that seriously? Or we get calls for Comcast and because people are out to kill Comcast apparently; after 20 minutes of chewing us out for a charge on there bill we are finally able to get out 2 words and say "this is 1800contacts" "oh sorry" click. Lame!
Anways so we have to be all customer service friendly happy lovely people. Don't know why but I'm always saying "ok perfect" after every answer they give me because the customer is always right... well some people believe it or not only have one eye for real and when they tell me this guess what comes out of my mouth "oh perfect"...silence.
Also we all know what an authorization is on our debit or credit cards correct? Its not an actual charge and once the charge goes through there is no longer an authorization. So I have this guy call in the other day and he demands I remove the authorization from his card.
-I say ok well do you still want your contacts?
-Yes but take of the authorization.
- If I call your bank and take off the authorization your order will be deleted since there was no payment.
-So I want you to take of the authorization.
- Ok do you want your contacts? Yes.
-Then you need to leave the authorization on there until the charge goes through.
- This should be illegal.
-Is there anything else I can do for you today?

Call me crazy..

But I really want to achieve my new years resolutions so what better way to do that than to blog about my progress. So each week I will post my weight and how I did on my run for that week or training for the marathon and triathlon. Also I will try to update on how my classes at school are doing.
P.S. Once I can run 2 miles in 19:30mintues, do 17 real pushups in 2 min and 50 situps in 2 min then lets see I get to go to one of the best nursing schools in the state and have it completely paid for, get a housing allowance as well as a monthly allowance to live off...pretty good life right? Heck yes! The biggest issue for me right now is the 19:30 minute run so I will keep you all updated on my times.
