Bahamas Cruise

We finally went on our Bahamas cruise that we have been so anxiously awaiting! It was fabulous and quite adventurous as well. Here is the whole story...So first of all we were goingto fly standby but then the night before we started to realize maybe everyone who can fly stanby found the same deal on the cruise
that we had so flights were overbooked and a ton of people on standby. Basically, there was
no way we were getting out without having to pay for our flights. Mind you its the day before the cruise and now we are looking at purchasing flights. We suck it up and decide to go ahead and spend our life's savings (I'm being
super dramatic) on some flights. I don't know if I posted about
this already but we are living with my parents
now renting out a room. Anywhoo...so we go into our room to pack and my mom comes running in and says this flight is for 7am! Its approx. 9am when she says this. Then I grab the paper and see it is for 7am on Monday the same day our returning flight is for.
I swore outloud in front of my mother. From working in the airlines previously and my mom working in them I know its going to cost us another fortune to change them unless they have some sort of 24 hour rule. So we call the airlines they are telling me they will waive the increase in fare but its going to be $150 per person to change so another $300 dollars
and then the supervisor gets on the phone basically
calls me stupid and Ben has Expedia on
the other phone they say no change fee they are just going to cancel and rebook
and we'll just pay what it normally costs. I say "Thanks, Buh Bye" sarcastically of course to the airlines and we are good to go. I have to have to have to mention this crazy guy we sat next to on the plane ride out I can't tell you how
many times he went to the bathroom and I wish I could show you how he passed me and Ben. He was sitting in the
window he would grab the eisle seats handle and take one large step to the eisle same thing coming back. We were dozing off and on throughout the flight
it was a red eye. We wake up because we are beginning to land and crazy guy is no
t buckled in next to me... UHHH?? I look at Ben??? Then I look and the floor and crazy leg man is lying in on the floor!!! WEIRD and CRAZY! The flight attendant passes us and I point to him and she wakes him up I am so not being that person. Ok so moving on. We get to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and everything is good for now. We flew into Fort Lauderdale because on our cruise itinerary said our port was in Fort Lauderdale. We come down the escalator and there are NCL cruise line reps who say $25 per person to take us to the port which doesn't make sense because the taxi driver is telling us $15 total but they are both saying different ports. So we call the cruise line. She asks ifI have our boarding pass.
Boarding pass what no?
She says they will DENY us boarding if we don't have it. What the hell???
***Side note this blog is becoming extremely long so I'm going to try and bipass some details*** We find a nice lady at the business center at the airport to print out our boarding passes and find that it's actually the Port of Miami which is about an hour away. Now Ben and I are normally not very supersticious but at this point we both have huge eyes wondering if this trip is really a good idea because so far things are not going very smoothly.
We make it to the cruise ship get some food take a nap life is good. We then
find out that unlike our other cruise there are cover
charges for some of the restaurants to eat at and we just eat alone at our own time. Oh well... it
was nice to just have time to ourselves. The next day we w
ere in Nassau, Bahamas. Here are some pictures upon arrival:

We bought an exurcision which was the Aquaadventure at the Atlantis Hotel.
This is the Atlantis Hotel...ITS HUGE!

For the aquaadventure you have an all day pass to the hotels water park and aquarium. They had some way fun slides one of which you got almost straight down into
shark infested waters...No joke!
I came out and Ben said I had serious fear in my eyes...hahaha

And here are some awesome pictures for the AMAZING aquarium. They had like a 12 foot sting ray but he was super quick I kept trying to catch a picture of him but he was too swift! Also, I so very much want one of the mini seahorses...

The last night on our cruise we stayed up on the front of the ship and watched the sunset it was absolutely gorgeous!

Our trip home was very uneventful compared to the trip out there. It was a much needed fabulous vacation!

Family In Town

Trevor, Amy and Ava came into town we haven't seen them since our wedding and we had not met Ava yet. It was a blast to have the whole family here we had so much fun! We went to the zoo went hiking and played a ton! We even had some professional family pictures taken with everyone including the new baby girls. Also while they were here Josslyn had her baby blessing.
Here are some photo's from the weekend none of the professional stuff is up yet.

Here are most of the girls after Josslyns blessing chilling in the backyard.
(Thanks Cat for getting the photo and being on top of things!)
And heres the whole fam after hiking to dog lake! Gorgeous fun hike!

ROTC

I've been trying to be better with keeping our blog updated but we are super super super super busy lately which makes it a bit difficult.

Bottom line comes down to Ben and I have been looking into joining the Nursing ROTC program. In order to contract and be a part of the program along with the scholarship you have to pass a physical fitness test and have a certain gpa. I also wanted to get my Associates degree out of the way. We decided to just sign up for the ROTC class and PT (physical training) classes through SLCC that are held with the Univ. of Utah and Westminster (they are combined). We LOVE it and are both planning on contracting in Dec/Jan. When we do contract it will be through the U of U but we will be going to Westminster, full tuition scholarship, housing allowance, and a monthy allowance to live off of as well. AMAZING right! We will both be graduating at the same time with our B.S.N. (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) and they we have to serve in the Army for 4 years after our graduation. Of course there is much more detail into all of this but I'll have 4 years to get that all posted on here so this is good for now.

The ROTC program is amazing so far and we have pretty much seen everything. The PT is held at 6am mon, wed, and fri up at the U of U and it is intense! I thought we were in pretty good shape...WAKE UP CALL! Holy guacamole! We love it though! It is a kick in the butt most days. For one hour it is usually a pretty intense workout: running, push ups, sit ups, pull ups, tire flips, squats, cattle bells, sprinting...Its insane. If you still aren't getting the picture I lost 6 pounds in about 2 weeks eating normal as a I usually do the only thing that changed was I started doing PT!

We also have a military science class up at the U which is mostly about leadership and the basic structure of the military. After class we have a lab where we learn all sort of different things and have hands on experience like land navigation, grenades as well as other stuff.

Its really neat and is definitely a great experience.

Work

For those who don't know I know work at 1800contacts and absolutely LOVE IT! More of that to come later!

People Are Awesome!

Two stories:
#1: In Ben and I's Geography class we have a wide range of different personalities. There is this girl and she apparently works at the Salt Lake Tribune in a very high up position or so she says. The other day in class the teacher is explaining how a globe or map is put into a grid system with the degrees, minutes and seconds. He goes on to show us a calculation if we were going 69 miles an hour and were to drive in a straight line around the world how long that would take us. It was just a fun theoretical thing he was throwing at us. Well Ms. Salt Lake Tribune blurts out "Thats not possible. You can't drive in straight line and there's water." Ben looks at me and I am like oh my gosh. It took everything I had not to say "are you serious? man, you should be the teacher!" I know that is probably really rude so all I said was " He was saying theoretically" and she gave me one of the nastiest looks ever it was Awesome!
#2: Today at my work we had a whole bunch of lovely prank callers. I don't know if it was just because of the holiday weekend or what but they were on the prowl. I was lucky enough to get one who's name was apparently Ilene Dover. Genius. Thats not the best part of this story though. I emailed my friend about this prank caller. Now my friend she is a very sweet girl but sometimes I worry about her and her thought process if you catch my drift. So, like I said I email her about my prank caller and about an hour later she emails me back and says... Hey, I got a prank caller too. Their name was Amanda Waffle, so I just hung up... I email her back saying I don't understand and her response is...Me neither so I just hung up.
HAHAHAHAHAHA! AWESOMENESS right there!

Penny Producing Pool

I know I know I know I need to get updates on here of everything going on but this story I have for you all is hillarious!!!! Oh wow!So the funniest thing happened today at the pool at our apartments. Ben and I love to dive for pennies down at the pool. We take a whole bunch of them and throw them all over and then see who can get the most pennies. So anyways, we are just chilling by the side of the pool talking and Ben is nonchalantly throwing the pennies in the pool. Keep in mind today we probably brought down around 50-70 pennies... gotta love it. Anyways, we see the maintenance guy coming so Ben stops throwing pennies. (he didn't see us throwing the pennies in the pool). He comes over to fix a filter or something and looks down at the pool, then he looks all over and we hear him mutter to himself "thats a shi*load of pennies down there". So then he yells to his co-worker "Bob, we're gunna need the vacuum there's a whole bunch of pennies in this pool and it's going to stain the bottom of the pool." HAHAHAHAHAHA... so Ben yells we can just grab them for you. So we do. And the maintenance guys are so grateful and are so helpful to point out where the pennies are for us to grab. Then , hold on tight this is the best part, after we have collected all of them the guy says "you guys can keep them if you want".... Ah thanks!!!
Freaking Hillarious! Ben and I were laughing so dang hard! Oh wow...good times! So we named our apartment pool the PENNY PRODUCING POOL.

Cooking with Linds

For any of you who have enjoyed reading about my cooking adventures I have decided to have a specific blog dedicated to it so if you want to go to this address...http://lindseyweberskitchen.blogspot.com/
You can keep tagging along with my cooking.

First Things First

I know Ben and I don't swear a ton and we keep it pretty low key on our blog (I know some of you are laughing for all sorts of different reasons) but anyways we've decided, with the help of family members, that because we have nieces and such we need to tone it down. So no more "pissed, damn, or hell". For those of you you have been around us we say "Hell" all the time. So now that I have written our swear words in this blog for their final farewell on the blog ...Why am I telling you all this??? Because we got at dang virus! Heck! I am so ticked! Oh its a virus on our computer by the way. I am seriously TO'd! I had my first experience with the blue screen of death...Oh my heck! Going to hurt someone! We had to completely erase everything on our computer and some of the stuff got erased by the dang virus. This included pictures, papers, you name it. Some of the stuff we were able to back up but some stuff we lost. Luckily I hadn't erased the pictures off of the camera so thats good.
So I'm pretty sure we got the virus from some punk who decided to hack our internet here at the apartment complex ....
Needless to say when Jesse, our computer genius brother, finds out exactly who gave us this virus, and yes he will find out, we are going to take over there dang com
puter and when they go to google and type in a search next thing you know this will appear on their screen!
Just as a nice, friendly, neighbor to neighbor reminder....
To not use our internet and then give us a dang virus!

Utah Arts Festival

We went to the Utah Arts Festival last night! It was fabulous! Both of us had never been before.
We watched Ririe Woodbury Dance perform on one of the outside stages. They were amazing of course! They are one of my favorite! The dancers were fantastic! Then we walked around bought some yummy roasted almonds looked at all of the really neat booths. Ben talked to one of the police officers at a booth and he gave Ben some really good advice. We wanted to stay and see a show and the information booth said that a group called "Cowboy Junkies" were going to perform later so we stuck around for that. On the stage that we thought they were performing on 3 ladies dressed as grandmas walked out and started performing. We thought they may just be an opening act but they kept going. It was pretty hillarious...after a while we realized they were pretty much an anti mormon type thing. Terrible. And then it was over. We took a look at our program for the night and realized we had been at the wrong stage... whoops!
It was a blast! We had such a fun night! We are planning on going every day!

Hello World!

You would think with me being unemployed that I would have blogged more. But I haven't blogged pretty much at all except for posting this AMAZING granola recipe yesterday! Maybe I'm sounding all Molly Mormon or whatever but its amazing so join the club you may think I'm in but not... hahaha.
Anywhoo... so I bet everyone is just dying to know what we have been up to because we have super crazy random dramatic (LOL) lives!
1. As of last week I (Lindsey) am no longer unemployed. We were driving along in the Mazda (prounounced Mahz-duh!) and heard a radio ad that says " do you have call center experience" why yes I do " have you worked in the travel industry" yes " do you know how to use the sabre system" this was the system that jetblue changed over to so...yes." Apply now to be a travel agent for teleperformance! " So just for the fun of it I did! 15 minutes after filling it out they called me and pretty much hired me over the phone but I still had to do the whole interview thing and all that jazz. Bad news I won't be graduating this semester because I had to drop some classes for the hours at the job. Good news... GREAT PAY! Well for me! Its the most I will have ever made. Fabulous! The project is permanent and its for expedia.com except the business travel portion of it. Should be fun! Their biggest thing they talk about is advancement so I'm crossing me fingers and going to work hard to advance quickly! I start next Monday working evenings.
2. My unemployment claim was denied. I appealed it. Denied again. Bunch of B.S. It's so political these days it drives me up a wall. So good thing I found a job cause they are not going to pay me a dime. Thanks people who denied my claim and jetblue.
3. Ben and I are looking into joining the ROTC. At first we were both commited hard core but I'm not so sure if its what I want to commit to for 12 years. Ben for sure wants to do it so we are getting him all ready! You have to pass in 3 areas to be granted a scholarship; leadership, academic, and physical. We took a practice physical a few weeks back and we're not going to talk about that. Lets just say it gaves us some idea of where we were at and what we need to do. What the ROTC would be is the ARMY would pay for our schooling we'd have to do special leadership training at the school as well. The ARMY would give us basically monthy paychecks, housing allowance and we would lose all of this if at anytime we worked a job for more than 20 hours a week. Sound Awesome yet? Then after we graduate with our Bachelors we would also be commisioned an officer in the ARMY! WOW HUH? Starting out at about $50,000 a year. So then all we have to give them in return is 4 years (after we graduate) active duty and then 4 years reserve. Ben and I both want to do the nursing program. We really worry about deployment and being split up though. Really scary. Before we decide to jump full head on to this thing we are going to take the ROTC classes at the U during the fall and then we can start in January 2011. A lot of commitment, a lot of discipline, new lifestyle so we'll see.
4. Our 1 year anniversary is this Sunday the 27th! So AWESOME! What a year right? WOW! It's been amazing though every last second of it! We don't really have time to celebrate though so we are going to major celebrate in September with our cruise to the Bahamas! We were talking in today about maybe buying an anniversary gift. Maybe a special hammock thing (believe me it's way cool) so we can sleep on our porch, or a rifle (LOL) Random I know.
5. We are both enrolled full time at school right now. Ben is kicking butt at 16 credit hours plus a 40 hour job and I am at 12 credit hours with a 40 hour job. We have 1 class together, communications. It is so much fun having a class together and we are so hard core students.
Well I think thats it for now but who knows!

Granola Heck yes!

Found this granola recipe ... LOVE IT! Ya know how granola is like a million bucks at the store well this is super cheap to make and super easy!!! I've made like a gazillion batches so far and it tastes AMAZING too! Much better than the million buck stuff from the store.
Heres the recipe!
  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.

In a large bowl, combine the oats and brown sugar.

In a separate bowl, combine maple syrup, oil, and salt. Combine both mixtures and pour onto 2 sheet pans. Cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes to achieve an even color.

Remove from oven and transfer into a large bowl. Mix lightly for a few minutes.

You can add dried fruit or raisins after you cook it. Or you can add apples, bananas or strawberries and mix with yogurt.

Super yummy! Try it out!

Blackberry Cheesecake Bars

Just know that pretty much each of these recipes are super easy and super yummy!
Saying that these cheesecake bars are amazing! However I thought they were pretty rich but I'm sure for everyone it's different. Something really nice about these bars is that the recipe actually says to use blueberries but I'm pretty sure you can us any kind of berries. For instance, I used blackberries!
Here's the recipe. Enjoy!

what you need!

6 Tbsp. butter, melted
2 cups HONEY MAID Graham Cracker Crumbs
2 pkg. (8 oz. each) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 jar (10 oz.) blueberry jam or preserves
1 cup blueberries

make it!

HEAT oven to 350ºF.

MIX butter and graham crumbs in 13x9-inch pan; press onto bottom of pan. Refrigerate until ready to use.

BEAT cream cheese in large bowl with mixer until creamy. Add sugar, eggs and vanilla; beat until well blended. Stir jam in jar until softened; spread evenly onto crust. Top with berries, then cream cheese mixture.

BAKE 30 min. or until slightly puffed. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

Here's what they should like:

However, I was a bit behind and didn't get picture in until they had mostly been eaten... Mine did not turn out as stiff as they look in the picture either they were a bit more gooey. Not sure about that but they were definitely yummy!

AMUCK

If thats even how you spell it... definition: All over the place.
That's what our life is all over the place AND we LOVE it!
Isn't it amazing how things can happen so very quickly and the crazy chain of events that happen in life.
Let me try and break it down for you.
It's definitly going to be long but it's important that I get this information and what happened out in the open.
For quite awhile now Ben and I have been debating about me leaving Discover or not.
We finally decided that we felt we had stability and that I would be able to leave. My last day was Friday. They were offering a ton of overtime at jetBlue that I chose to take advantage of. Around the first part of February jetBlue changed over to a new booking system. It was craziness. We had been trained but no one was prepared for what the new system was going to do to the company. Because we work from home the only way to get to a supervisor or another department you had to go through the phone. After what the company called "cutover" (when we changed to they new system) the hold times for supervisors and the other departments was ridiculous. I'm talking 60-90 minutes that I had to tell the customer they had to wait and then I had to sit in the que during this time. As time passed the hold time went down but it still was pretty ridiculous. We had many customers complain but there wasn't much we could do about it. A lot of times the customers hung up while we were on hold and it was hard to recognize that they were no longer on the phone. Other times I would call the supervisor line conveniently called "Crew Support" without the customer on the phone because I needed further assistance with something or there was no need to keep the customer on the phone.
During this time frame the employees were receiving emails stating "we're all in this together, we're here for you, etc"
I'm on the phone with a customer last night and my specific supervisor comes through and asks why I'm putting the customer on hold. I explain myself and she tells me that she thinks there is no need to call Crew Support. She said she feels like I'm abusing the phone system and they've been seeing this with many crew members. She said that her and her manager needed to meet with me and that they wanted to meet the next day, today, to discuss the situation. She said that it was basically looking like a termination at this point.
****Please keep in mind this is the first contact I have ever had with my supervisor where she has brought these issues up, I've never had a warning, a coaching NOTHING!****
Also I'm in the middle of my shift and my supervisor is telling me I may be fired the next day but oh just keep working sleep well see you in the morning. REALLY???
Then...she calls me again *Still Working mind you*** and gives me the time they want to meet with me and says again that I will most likely be terminated but I have the option to resign.
????Anyone seeing anything crazy with this situation so far????
So I call my mom. She has worked there for 8 years. I tell her whats going on and she says she has no idea what I'm doing different than all the other employees at jetBlue. She calls her supervisor and they say to have me go in and just ask them for examples ask them to help me understand.
I was a mess. I was freaking out. I had just barely barely barely quit my other job so that I could focus on jetBlue. Ben came home and he was extremely positive and supportive about the situation. The biggest thing for me was the confrontation. I hate confrontation. I hate these types of situations HATE HATE HATE it. And don't you just love how they gave me all night to just beat myself up about it and ponder and think of the worst possible situation????
Thanks
I go in today. My supervisor says hello and that maybe she should have told me to bring all of my equipment in to turn in....WOW!
I go into the room with her and her manager. Her manager explains to me that in order to keep integrity and consistency for them that they are unable to let me try to fix the situation. They can't draw the line between who gets let go and who doesn't. They have to be "fair". They tell me theres nothing I can say or do that will keep them from carrying out termination of my employment with the company.
The End
I don't like drama I don't like to dwell on these types of situations. However, I did warn my fellow crewmembers of the situation and many if not all of them said that they don't understand what I was doing different from them and some even said they were called in to meet with their supervisors tomorrow.
It's an awful situation and we are all very dissapointed in the company we thought jetBlue was.
Isn't it randomly crazy how things happen.

When one door closes another one opens.
When life gives you lemons make lemonade.
I applied for unemployment TODAY and was approved TODAY I will begin recieving benefits next week.
Ben and I have also decided that I am going to go to school full time starting on Monday and finish my Associates Degree.
And we'll go from there.

Like I said ... Our life is AMUCK and we absolutely love every second of it!

Job Update

I quit Discover! YAY! So happy! Ben and I both think it was a great decision. I'm just doing jetBlue now and I love it! Working from home is amazing! I really don't mind not having co-workers all around me...it's Fabulous! I'm only scheduled only 24 hours a week but can pick up to around 90 I believe...
Ben is at Convergys and he is also working for the Census. He goes around and asks people the Census questions and turns it in for the people who didn't turn theres in.
Funny thing: Ben and I didn't do our Census form! OOPS!
Anywhoo...schools over for this semester...have some plans...more on that to come later!

Garden!

I few weeks ago I bought some berries plants. Today Ben bought me a wooden pot to put them in along with a Topsy Turvy Strawberry planter

I also got a starter kit that holds up to 50 seeds. We bought tomato seeds and pea seeds. I'm hoping to get started on everything tomorrow and hopefully have pics up soon!

Salt Lake City Half Marathon

We did it! Yahoo!!! On Saturday April 17th we completed the Salt Lake City Half Marathon. It was an amazing experience and I recommend everyone do one at least once in your life!
It was a perfect day for the run! Not too hot not too cold. So glad it wasn't snowing!
To start off the day we got up around 4:30 am and met Dad and Mom Parry, Morgan and Jason at the Gateway then we took trax up to the U where the starting point was. There were crazy lines for the bathrooms that I need to remember next time to take pictures of. We were able to see the very start of the wheelchair race...I can't believe they do all those miles with their arms wow very neat and inspirational!
After some stretching and of course the official start horn we were off.
My mom and I are close to the same pace we stayed together until about Mile 4.
They had many bathroom and drink stops along the way. My parents had given us fanny packs with energy bars and beans and I had some energy blocks that I brought.
There were so many people all along the route they gave such great encouragement I don't think anyone could do it without them. They yell at you and tell you to keep going it's great! The final 3 miles or so are coming up state street and its a pretty steep hill after you've ran 10 miles. We all found that it actually hurts more to walk than to run at that point. The last mile or so is coming up to the gateway and down the main street. There are tons of people and cameras it's awesome!
Karlie and her mom were also waiting at the finish line to cheer us on!
Ben came in at 2:28 which is amazing and I did 2:57 which isn't too bad for our first time.
Morgan came in at 2:45 My mom at 3:07 they both did the half also.
Jason and Dad came in at about 4:10 for the full marathon...WOW!
Ben wants to just keep doing halfs I want to do the full marathon next year! YES!

Afterwards:
We went to lunch at TGIFridays even though none of us were to hungry. It's really weird that much running can make you kinda nauseated. Then we all went to our own seperate homes to relax.
On Sunday none of us could move. It was pain! Ben's muscles were hurting him, my joints, everyone was just a little bit sore. My ankles were pretty swollen. Oh ya they still are too! Dad's one foot was swollen pretty bad as well and is still healing.
Why all this pain? Is it worth it? YES! I can't wait for the next one!
